GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) – For students at Gridley High School, the first day of school was a sweet treat.
Whether returning or attending GHS for the first time, GHS Leadership wanted to do something special to welcome students for the 2021-2022 school year. Thus, the leadership class spent hours collecting $600 worth of donations from the community to host a welcome back breakfast of donuts and drinks for their classmates.
Leadership Advisor Jennifer Davidson said that first-day back breakfast kept herself and the leadership class “super busy” and that the event was well received by the students. The “kids loved having the music playing and we’ve been handing out donuts all day! It’s been a great way to welcome the kids back and a lot of the kids were excited to have a free breakfast!” says Davidson.
At the last count, 35 dozen, 420 donuts total, were handed out by the GHS Leadership class and staff before the start of school and throughout the day, Monday, August 30th.
This is just one of many activities planned for the first week back, including a mid-week ice cream social and “Welcome Back” rally to be held Friday. Why all the tasty treats? David says it’s just “because we are happy to have everyone back!”
