GHS Basketball Finishes Season with Wins over Orland

GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - Gridley High School varsity basketball wrapped up their short season at home on Saturday, June 5, 2021, against Orland High School. Basketball fans from both communities packed Farmers Hall to watch the two schools compete after a quick ceremony honoring the senior players for the Bulldogs.
The Lady Bulldogs had a strong team this year led by senior captains, Kennedy Tull and Ally Mardesich, going 4-0 on the shortened season. The team beat Las Plumas High School (47-44), Wheatland High School (56-48), Oroville High School (64-32), and Orland High School (59-44). With Fall sports given a short time to get a season in, Gridley’s Lady Bulldog basketball program formed one team composed of freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. This year’s roster included Tull (senior), Mardesich (senior), Lupita Soria (senior), Marysa Taylor (senior), Ariana Alejo (junior), Aubrey Ponciano (junior), Ella Sannar (sophomore), Alyssa Thompson (freshman), Sidney Allard (freshman), and Rya Andes (freshman).
The boys basketball team took a while to get their chemistry built throughout their five game season, but was able to find their groove with the final game when they beat the Orland Trojans at home. The team, led by seniors Grant Tull, Cameron Carr, and Chance Nicolson, went 2-3 on the season winning games against Oroville High School (62-56 OT) and Orland High School (51-40), and losing to Las Plumas High School (57-49), Wheatland High School (58-55), and their first meeting against Orland High School (53-42). This year’s roster included freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors as well, which included Tull (senior), C. Carr (senior), Nicolson (senior), Anthony Hiestand (senior), Erik Caudillo (junior), Shay Carr (junior), Jorge Ramirez (junior), Tyler Farr (junior), Michael Sanchez (junior), Fabian Garcia (junior), Carson Wallace (freshman), Brian Brown (freshman), Benson Tolman (freshman), Kiko Castillo (freshman), and Shmass Khan (freshman).
The Tull twins will continue their basketball careers this fall when they join their older sister, Maddyson Tull, at the Oregon Institute of Technology. All three Tulls will be playing for Oregon Tech on sports scholarships.
