Gridley VFW Gathers to Receive 75th Anniversary Award
GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - After very little activity, Gridley Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5731 came together in a private meeting Saturday, April 3rd, to receive a very special award.
VFW District 15 Commander Mike DiGiordano was on hand to present the post the Diamond Jubilee Award in honor of Warren H. Mc Cutcheon Post 5731’s 75th anniversary. Gridley’s VFW post celebrated the landmark birthday on February 21st, this year, commemorating the original charter signed and first hung on the walls of the hall in February of 1946.
The award includes a gold stamped Diamond Jubilee Award certificate signed by the National Commander in Chief of the VFW, Hal Roesch, along with his official head shot. A letter addressed to Gridley’s VFW post by Commander Roesch reads:
“It is an honor to congratulate you upon the occasion of the 75th anniversary of your post. I send my sincere thanks and gratitude to all members of VFW Post 5731 for your outstanding record of service to the community, to veterans, service members and their families, and to our nation for so many years.
“The members of VFW Post 5731 are a pillar of support for Gridley California. Year after year, you have provided superb public service to others. You provide an invaluable network of service to those who have borne the battle, as well as to their families, and you advance the health and well-being of those who bear the burden of defending our nation and our way of life.
“Your continued devotion to protecting and upholding American ideals serve as an inspiration for all to follow, and is testament to our motto, No One Does More for Veterans.
“My heartfelt congratulations on reaching this landmark. Well done!”
Gridley VFW’s Ed Kawasaki says that the award is “an honor” and many local VFW veterans came out to the meeting after months of lockdown to witness the Post receive the commendation.
