GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) – A Gridley family will not be the same after a 2-collision event that occurred during the evening hours of Friday, October 16^th.

Two women from Gridley, ages 44 and 54, accompanied by two children, a 2-year-old boy and 4-year-old girl, were traveling on Live Oak Boulevard north of Yuba City when they were involved in a minor traffic collision. The women exited the disabled Chevy traverse, which had come to rest in the southbound lane just north of Eager Rd, to check on the children in the back seat.

It was at that time, a second vehicle, a Chevy Equinox traveling southbound on Live Oak Boulevard, approached the scene. The driver of that vehicle, a 77-year-old man from Yuba City, failed to see the vehicle blocking the roadway and the two women outside of the vehicle. According to the CHP press release, the Equinox attempted to swerve to the left at the last minute but struck the vehicle and both women.

The 54-year-old woman was fatally injured, and all other parties involved, including an 84-year-old woman passenger, were transported to Adventist Rideout Hospital in Marysville for treatment. The 44-year old woman sustained major injuries, the 4-year-old female moderate injuries, and the 2-year-old boy was transferred to UC Davis. The Yuba City man and woman traveling in the Equinox were also treated for minor injuries, with the passengers’ injuries not quantified.

An investigation into the incident is still on-going but drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the deadly crash.
