SACRAMENTO REGION, CA (MPG) – The annual California Capital Airshow (CCA), presented by Sacramento County in partnership with the City of Rancho Cordova, would normally be setting up this week with jets, pilots and crew arriving from across North America to deliver a weekend of entertainment at Mather Airport. But there’s much more to this nonprofit organization than what fans see overhead. Sacramento’s popular Airshow is actually a fundraiser for its annual scholarship program, serving students from across the six-county region who dream of accomplishing great things and simply need a little help.

Thanks to the support of sponsors and ticket holders each year, CCA’s deep commitment to inspiring young people has produced great results. The Airshow team’s efforts, in the air, on the ground and throughout the year has delivered $262,000 in awards to 156 remarkable future leaders to attend 36 different education institutions across 14 states. These students plan to change the world in a variety of ways, from using artificial intelligence to end climate change to building filtration systems in third-world countries.

“My love of airplanes began at a young age and is likely attributable to attendance at the California Capital Airshow where I first saw the B-29 fly,” said John Kroeger, recent CCA scholarship recipient. “An aerospace engineering degree will open up a world of possibilities for me. I plan to work on the next generation of machinery that will drive humanity into the future - designing safer, more advanced, and more efficient airplanes.”

“Although we are all experiencing an unprecedented year, students still need our help in making their dreams come true and the public can help.” said Darcy Brewer, executive director, CCA.

Fans are encouraged to help CCA raise $50,000 from September 28-October 4 to support other stellar high school seniors pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, aviation and aerospace go to college.

It’s simple to donate at CaliforniaCapitalAirshow.com and support the next generation of innovators. No amount is too small and every dollar makes a difference, but individuals who donate $50 or more will receive one FREE general admission ticket (good for one adult and up to six youth) for the 2021 Airshow, featuring the United States Air Force Thunderbirds jet demonstration team, on September 25-26.

Established in 2004, the California Capital Airshow 501(c)3 plans and operates the exciting, family-friendly annual event designed to honor the Sacramento region’s rich aviation heritage and veterans while using the power and magic of flight to inspire young people. The Airshow gives back to the community through scholarships, charitable group donations and exciting educational youth programming throughout the year. Buckle up for September 25-26, 2021 when the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds jet demonstration team will return to the skies of Mather Airport.
