GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - Gridley’s floral and gift shop, The Wishing Corner, has responded to requests from parents and bored children wanting to do something creative while stuck at home during the lock-down.

Owner Becky Harr says that the idea for the kits came both from within the store and from the community.  She tells of having craft supplies in storage from the store’s previous incarnations as a craft and art supply store that normally don’t garner any interest from the public and how she decided they should do something with them. “They (kids and parents) can’t go anywhere, Michaels is closed… I have it sitting here... and I said, “Let’s do this!”

So, The Wishing Corner has assembled everything a crafter would need, including rainbow stacks of felt, glittery buttons and beads, poofs and more for their “Felt Flower Kit.” Fellow community members and parents also pitched the idea of live floral kits, including a glass vase, decorative ribbon, 3 carnations and greens. Amateur florists get to pick the color of their flowers (carnations are standard) and ribbon, then assemble them into an arrangement. Harr laughs and says, “It gives them something to do!”

The response from kids and parents has been fantastic. Nicki Kent, mother to budding florists Daniel and Nickolas Kent says, “A BIG shout out to Becky and the rest of the Wishing Corner gang for putting together this amazing flower project for the children of our community. Worth the $15. Thumbs up ladies.”

Employee Nubia McCormick says that they have been asked to do something “a little more for boys” for their next project. When asked when that will be, Harr says to watch their Facebook page. They are hoping to continue the crafting and floral fun with more projects planned for future and are open to suggestions from the community on what activities they’d like to see.

The fresh floral kits start at $15 each but can run more if you’d like to pick other flowers to work with besides the standard carnations - the felt floral kits are just $13.
