LIVE OAK, CA (MPG) - The varsity Lady Lions have struggled finishing games this season, but their win loss ratio doesn’t tell the complete story. Their determination to persevere on the court this season has been admirable, losing by slim margins in a number of games. On Friday, January 10, 2020, the Lady Lions hosted crosstown rival, Gridley High School, once again showing their grit to hang with the best of them.
In the first quarter, Brianna Gomez led the Lady Lions with four points to keep the game close 12-11. Tanya Dulai hit a 3-pointer in the first quarter, with Hailey Medeiros and Makenna Douglas contributing two points each for the Lady Lions. Lady Bulldog, Ally Mardesich, sunk two 3-pointers for six points in the first quarter, with help from Kennedy Tull and Sierra Brady to keep the lead. After the first quarter, the Lady Bulldogs found their groove dropping 17 points on the Lady Lions to take a 29-19 lead into halftime. By the end of the third quarter, the Lady Bulldogs increased their lead over the Lions 38-24 when Brady scored five points in the quarter. The Lady Lions couldn’t keep pace with the quick pace of the Lady Bulldogs and fell by a score of 55-31.
Gomez, Medeiros, and Calihan Vrablick led the scoring for the Lady Lions with six points each in the game. Douglas added five points, Dulai and Ryelin Jansen each scored three points, and Cristabel Garcia finished with two points.
Tull led the Lady Bulldogs with 15 points, followed by Brady with 12 points and Mardesich with 10 points. Haley Gustavsen put up six points, Lupita Soria added five points of her own, Marysa Taylor scored four points, Briana Luquin scored two points, and Isabelle Hernandez scored one point.
During the JV game earlier in the evening, Gridley cruised to a 50-14 victory over the Lady Lions.
