BIGGS, CA (MPG) – It turned out to be a great night for the Biggs Christmas Street Faire and Tree Lighting.
The annual holiday celebration is held each year in downtown Biggs, which community volunteers and Project Biggs members traditionally go all out decorating. Saturday’s extreme weather put a damper on decorating the park and downtown area and left planners scrambling to get everything done Sunday morning for the evening event.
There must have been a little magic in the air, because the clouds cleared and once again, the street faire and tree lighting turned out to be a hit.
Santa announced his presence from the roof top of the historic Colonia Hotel in a burst of snow flurries, which children happily played and danced through in the street below. Santa also made himself available for selfie pictures (or parents snapping shots with their cell phones) atop his sleigh.
New and one of the highlights of this year’s celebration was the Ugly Sweater Contest. Contestants showcased their most-heinous holiday garb while the crowd cheered and clapped for their favorites. First, second and third place took home gift baskets and the adoration of the crowd.
The lighting of the tree finished up the planned festivities for the evening, leaving the attendees to enjoy the vendors, food, and holiday charm of historic downtown Biggs.
