Biggs High School Varsity Football Wins Big on Homecoming Night

BIGGS, CA (MPG) - The Biggs High School varsity football team has been rolling their opponents this season, and nothing changed against the Portola Tigers Homecoming night on Friday, October 25th. Junior star running back, Shavon Gramps-green, had a huge night with five rushing touchdowns on 260 yards on the ground.

The Wolverines kicked off to the Tigers to start the game. The Portola offense marched down the field on the ground and in the air for about 70 yards for the first score of the game. Portola seemed to be a worthy opponent early in the game with an early interception on the Wolverines first offensive possession. On their second possession, Gramps-green threw a Tiger defender in the backfield in what appeared to be a potential tackle for a loss, and accelerated up the middle for a 55-yard touchdown run to even the score at 7-7 in the first quarter.

From the first play of scrimmage in the second quarter, Portola running back broke free for a 60-yard touchdown run to take a 14-7 lead. Casen Rivero responded for the Wolverines with a 5-yard touchdown run. After what appeared to be a botched PAT attempt, Biggs took a 15-14 lead and never looked back. Senior defensive back, Blake McClean, made a one-handed interception to give the Wolverines the ball back in Tiger territory. Gramps-green muscled his way into the end zone, breaking five tackles along the way, to put the Wolverines up 23-14. On the next defensive stand, sophomore defensive end, Camren Jackson, intercepted a Tiger pass and returned it about 15 yards for the score to take a 29-14 lead into halftime.

After Biggs received the kickoff to start the second half, Gramps-green broke loose again on the first offensive play for 50 yards to give Biggs a 36-14 lead. A strong defensive battle from both teams kept the game 36-14 as the third quarter expired.

In the fourth quarter, junior quarterback, Gregg Slusser, connected with sophomore, Cody Roles for 15 yards, before Gramps-green punched it in from 7 yards out for his fourth touchdown of the evening. A Camren Jackson stripped fumble gave the Wolverines the ball back to set up another Gramps-green score. After rushing for 25-yards down the the 5 yard line, Gramps-green punched it in for his fifth touchdown on the night.

The Wolverines captured the Homecoming night win by a score of 49-23 to improve to 7-1 overall (5-1 Cascade Valley League).
