GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - Every year for the past 29 years, the Hispanic Resource Council of Northern California puts together an event for hispanic farm workers of Butte County. The event, Dia Del Campesino, which translates to “Farmers’ Day”, first started as a means to educate the campesinos as to what resources are available to them. Resources range from health care, dental, educational, banking, women’s voting, and legal services. This year’s event was held in Gridley’s Daddow Park, on Sunday, October 13th, from noon to 5:00 PM.

Event Chair, Reyna Nolta, said “the event has been growing and growing over the years to the point where we now have 45-50 agencies to come out with live entertainment, band music, and non-profit organizations who all come together to put this event on for the community.” The event is very important to the hispanic population of Butte County and has provided a great way to bridge some gaps between the campesinos and their communities. Year after year organizations within the county work together to help the needs of the people.

The event alternates within three cities every year. Last year, the event was held in Hamilton City, this year in Gridley, with next year’s event being held on October 11, 2020 at the Downtown Plaza in Chico. At this year’s event there were countless amount of resources, live dancing, a number of delicious food vendors, and over $2,000 in raffle prizes. Orchard Hospital and Butte County Public Health teamed up for free flu shots and health screenings at this year’s event.

A special thank you from Reyna Nolta and the Hispanic Resource Council of Northern California to all sponsors, food vendors, special entertainment, and participants at this year’s event. Without the support of all the agencies, organizations, and sponsors the event would not be the success that it is year after year.
