GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - The feeling of a cool fall breeze in the early hours of a Saturday morning was the perfect way for the start of the Gridley Recreation soccer season. Saturday, September 7th, was the official start of the 2019 season with youth players, coaches, and family members packed at Sycamore Middle School for some thrilling soccer competition. Four soccer fields were created for players 6U, 8U, and 10U with game times starting every hour from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Starting this year, the 12U-14U boys and girls teams are playing their games in Live Oak due to a shortage of teams in Gridley. This opportunity allows the older youth players to get a feel for a more competitive environment like that in which middle school and high school soccer offers. 

To start the soccer season for the 10U teams there were some great games with a lot of goal scorers. This week the Cruisers played against the Vipers for the 9:00 AM game, the Challengers played the Rams at 10:00 AM, the Jaguars played the Teslas at 11:00 AM, and the Rangers played the Mustangs at 12:00 PM. 

Isaiah Melo had himself a day on the soccer field with 5 goals for the Rams. Carson Muzzy (Cruisers), Isaiah Hospers (Jaguars), and Ulysses Anguiano (Rangers) each scored 3 goals for their teams. Berlin Martin scored 2 goals for the Rams. Shawnacy McGilvray (Cruisers), Dominic Gonzalez (Cruisers), Marcus Duncan (Challengers), Talan Sannar (Rangers), Osmar Ceja (Rangers), Gerardo Negrete (Vipers), and Kaiden Night (Rams) each scored 1 goal for their teams. 

Soccer season will run every Saturday from September 7th until October 26th with games from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Sycamore Middle School. The games in Live Oak will also be every Saturday from September 7th until October 26th with games starting at 8:00 AM until 11:45 AM.
