GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - Gridley Titans football had their first home games of the season on Saturday, September 7th, against Bear River of Grass Valley. The 8U, 10U, 12U, and 14U teams played at Gridley High School while the 6U team traveled to Lindhurst for their game. The home and visitors stands were packed throughout the day with fans at the Boneyard as the 8U team started the day off for the first game. Alec Luquin, Chandler Dixon, and Jaiden Bandy each had multiple touchdowns for the 8U Titans as they won 40-0. During the 10U game, Manny Sandoval carried the ball into the endzone for three touchdowns while Victor Reyes scored one touchdown for the Titans as they won by a score of 33-0.

The 12U team had a great back and forth battle with the Bear River Bruins from start to finish. Both defenses played a great first half without allowing either team to score a touchdown. In the second half, each team started to get a little momentum on offense. Bear River scored first in the third quarter, and with a missed point after touchdown attempt, led by a score of 6-0. But running back, Jason Davis, and the Titans offense had other plans and marched down the first late in the fourth quarter for a 7-yard touchdown run to make it a 6-6 game. For the second straight week, the 12U team ended regulation tied forcing a period of overtime. The Titans marched 25-yards down the field before Davis punched it in from 3-yards out for the go-ahead touchdown. Davis crossed the line again for the PAT to make it a 13-6 game. A strong Titans defense contained the Bruins with their overtime possession and won by a score of 13-6.

In the final matchup of the evening, the 14U Titans team once again showed great improvement on both offense and defense. The 14U Titans defense showed sparks of improvement in the first and second halves at various moments with an excellent tackle in the backfield by Zach Smith and with some great tackles by defensive end, Elijah Hill. Tim Felkins also came away with an interception late in the game. The offense had its struggles early in the game, but like the defense improved throughout the game. Hector Perrera caught a 10-yard pass from quarterback Emiliano Bermudez and broke free from the defenders for an additional 30-yards on a nice catch and run play. In the end, the Titans 14U team would lose by a score of 38-0.
