CHICO, CA (MPG) - Gridley Titans football players got their first game-time experience of the season in a mini jamboree hosted at Chico High School on Saturday, August 17th. Instead of full field length games and times, each field used was cut in half with four teams competing at once to show off their strengths of offense and defense for twenty minutes. The Titans 8U, 10U, 12U, and 14U teams got to compete at various times on Saturday against teams from the surrounding area.

At 9:25 AM the 8U and 12U teams faced the Paradise Jr. Bobcats for ten minutes of offense and ten minutes of defense. At 10:15 AM the Titans 8U and 12U teams faced the Willows Jr. Honkers for another round of offense and defense. The 8U and 12U Titans teams faced the Oroville Rhinos at 11:55 AM and finished their day against the Orland Aztecs at 12:20 PM. At 1:25 PM the 10U and 14U Titans took to the fields for their scrimmages. Their first opponent was the Paradise Jr. Bobcats. Following suit of the earlier games, the Titans next opponent for their 2:15 PM game was against the Willows Jr. Honkers. For their final two games at 3:55 PM and 4:20 PM were against the Oroville Rhinos and Orland Aztecs.

Although the Titans teams showed a lot of strengths during their scrimmages, many opportunities were presented where coaches can get back to the drawing boards during the next week of practice and come up with some strategic game planning. The Titan’s teams will be back on the gridiron in Chico at Pleasant Valley High School on Saturday, August 24th, starting again around 9:00 AM. Their official season kicks off Saturday, August 31st at Foothill.
