GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) – “April Showers Bring May Flowers” was the theme for the annual fundraiser luncheon held by Gridley Quota club on May 2 at the newly-renovated Veterans Memorial Hall.
Tables and tables of every kind of salad imaginable were presented by Quotarians, along with rolls, charcuterie, drinks and tantalizing desserts. Umbrellas and flowers decorated the dining tables. In addition, raffle drawings were held as part of the festivities. Several vendors were present on the sidelines providing an opportunity for guests to shop.

Guests of all ages enjoyed the event, including long-time Oroville resident Ron Whaler and his friend, Jan White, also from Oroville. Whaler praised the Quota functions in Gridley.
“You guys have fun things going on!” said Whaler. “I don’t even eat breakfast when I know this is going on. You can’t beat it!”
Butte County District 4 Supervisor Tod Kimmelshue, and his executive assistant, Robin Cook attended the event.
“I’ve learned about Quota and this luncheon and the great work that Quota does. I try not to miss it. It’s a great community event, and again, what Quota does for the community is something very special. I was not really aware of Quota until I became the county supervisor here. I knew of the group but I didn’t know the great work that they do. This is a fantastic fundraiser and I’m glad that the Veteran’s Memorial Hall was finished,” Kimmelshue said. “The luncheon has been at the fairgrounds for the last four years (during renovation) and it’s just not the same atmosphere. This is wonderful. That’s what’s great about small communities like we have in Butte County. The community comes together and takes care of their own people and they do great work. I’m very proud of this community.”

Gridley resident Steve Hepworth brought his granddaughter, Cora. His wife, Maggie Hepworth, will be the new Quota president for the coming year, he said.
The Gridley Quota club operates the Quota Thrift Store at 550 Spruce St. and holds numerous service projects throughout the year, such as the ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) fundraiser walkathon that was held on May 3 at Biggs High School.
