As motorists prepare to head out onto the highway for some summer fun this Independence Day, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) is doing its part to help keep the fireworks where they belong...in the sky.  And with some advance planning, the CHP hopes this can be a safe celebration for everyone.

As you may have heard, “Olive Butte County Loves the Fair!”  The Butte County Fair is scheduled for August 26 - 30, 2009, and has many wonderful things to offer this year!  Most recently, the First Commodity Premier that will be showcasing olive products, wine and beer tasting has been added to the schedule of events.

With the temperatures in the North Valley getting in the 100° plus range we all need to do what we can to stay cool. Most of us have the air-conditioner running at full capacity and we manage to stay comfortable.

Because the newspaper is being printed in advance, we can mention a Thursday night “funraiser” being held at Round Table Pizza for Max’s Miracles.

We have received notices of recent fires from CAL-Fire and can't stress enough the dangers of the heat and dry conditions in our area.

Saturday, June 27, 2009, marked the 100th Centennial Celebration, "Mosquitoes, Mud and Memories" at Richvale Community Park, with well over 500 in attendance by 11 a.m. Sheriff Bob's Pancake Wagon started the day off with a pancake breakfast, followed by Swedish dancers from Davis performing in authentic dress to a nyckelharpa and the "Calvalcade of Characters," which brought third and fourth generations of Richvale founders and early day settlers to portray citizens of "Selby Switch" the name of the town, before it was renamed "Richvale," by the Richvale Land Company developers in 1909. The town's settlers could foresee that the land was rich and could grow anything, especially rice.
