Michael Alan Sound, a former resident of Ridgecrest, passed away on Sept. 30, 2018, in Long Beach. Michael was born in Ridgecrest to Alan and Claudia Sound on Nov. 21, 1954. He went through the local school system and attended Sunday School at the All Faith Chapel. He was an athlete, playing Little League and then football at Burroughs High School, graduating in 1972. He loved swimming and water-skiing behind his father’s boat.
Michael worked in the oilfields of Utah, and really loved that life, except for the frost in his beard in winter. While living in Vernal, Utah, he was married to Betsy D’Anza who gave him a daughter Sarah Jane.
He was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1984, and did his best not to let it slow him down, even going on a bicycle tour of the Grand Canyon. He was always cheerful and uncomplaining. In recent years, he lived at a care facility in Long Beach. After Michael’s death, his brother Richard returned to the home and reports that he was mobbed by the residents and staff offering sympathy and saying how much they loved Michael.
Michael was a loving father, son, brother, and uncle. He is survived by his daughter Sarah Eaton of Salt Lake City, Utah; mother Claudia Sound of Ridgecrest, brothers Richard (Gail) of Arcadia, Steven of Palmdale, and Andrew of Ridgecrest, as well as a niece, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Alan.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, at Holland and Lyons Mortuary, 216 S. Norma Street, with a reception to follow at Casey’s Steaks and BBQ, 1337 N. China Lake Blvd.
