The Gridley girls basketball team faced a tough task Tuesday evening when they hosted the the top Division V program in the North state, the Hamilton City Braves. The Braves, 11-0 already on the young season, have the sections most highly regarded player in Aubrey Bekendam, the northern sections reigning player of the year back for her senior season. Hamilton had played a full schedule during the break, including winning two tournaments, while the Bulldogs had logged many practice hours, but were returning to the court for the first time since before Christmas.
The results were not surprising as the Braves rolled out to a quick 14-2 lead after the opening quarter lead, and cruised home with a comfortable 58-32 win over Gridley, as Bekendam scored 22 points to pace the Braves.
