You can tell it’s almost football season.Newspapers and internet blogs have been chock full of reports over the past few days of this college or that one naming starting quarterbacks, and a lot of people have stopped following stock-car racing and the Washington Nationals.There also were stories about beaucoup home runs being hit at the Little League World Series, and how those kids were awfully big for 12- and 13-year-olds.But it has mostly been about naming quarterbacks.

It was during my second year of college, one of those weekend trips home for Mom to feed me and do my laundry and otherwise pamper a 19-year-old like he was 6 again. I sure could use a few more of those days.The wife, shockingly, disagrees.

They gave it their all but the Chico Nuts American Legion World Series season came to an end Saturday in an 11-4 loss for the American Legion World Western Regional to Waipahu, Hawaii at Scott Carpenter Park.
