        • Five locals to compete at Master’s today 12:01 am
          Several local athletes qualified for the Northern Section Master’s Meet that will take place today at West Valley High School. Field events will begin at 4:00PM and track events are set to begin at 6:00PM.
          Live Oak High School sophomore Adrian Silva has been on a roll lately. A week after setting a new PR in the 400m, he continued to excel, setting a new PR in the long jump. Silva, along with several other local athletes, will compete at the Northern Section Master’s Meet today at West Valley High School.

          The Marysville Gold Sox released their 2nd Annual High School All-Metro Award winners last week. Several local athletes will receive their awards at the 2nd Annual All-Metro Sports Awards Night to be held at Appeal-Democrat Park in Marysville prior to the game on Sunday, May 26, 2013.

          Wheatland High School hosted the Butte View League Track and Field Championships last Friday, where several Gridley athletes had huge success at both the varsity and JV levels. The top two finishers in each event qualified for the NSCIF Division II Championships that will take place today at Wheatland’s John Sohrakoff Jr. Field.
        • Guns & Hoses match Friday night May. 15, 2013
          Local firefighters and police officers will play in the 11th Annual Guns & Hoses Friday, May 17, 2013 at 6 p.m., at Vierra Park as a fund raiser for the Gridley High School Baseball Field. Come hungry because the snack bar will be serving hamburgers and hot dogs to help raise money. Little League coaches will take on the Guns & Hoses players following the first game with a home run derby in between the two matches.

          Several Lions came back to Live Oak wearing Sacramento Valley League Championship medals after competing at the Sacramento Valley League Championship Meet last Tuesday in Mt. Shasta. The champions along with the second place medalists—in both the varsity and JV divisions—qualified to advance to Friday’s NSCIF Division III Championship at Shasta High School in Redding.

        • Four Lions named All-SVL Tennis May. 10, 2013
          Michael Catbagan, the Lions’ number one player, made his way all the way to the SVL Singles Finals, but had to withdraw from the championship due to muscle cramps. Catbagan had also teamed with Jose Gonzalez to make it to the SVL Doubles Championship match; however, because of Catbagan’s withdraw, the team had to default their double championship match.

        • GHS' first annual Boys/Girls softball game May. 10, 2013
          The Gridley High School Varsity Boys' Baseball team and Varsity Girls' Softball team concluded both of their seasons with the first annual Gridley Boys vs. Girls Softball game. The boys came out victorious by a score of 14-0.
          Gridley’s Varsity Baseball team and Varsity Softball team wrapped up their seasons with a game against one another. Following the game, the softball team surprised the boys with a water balloon fight.

          The Live Oak Lions varsity baseball squad has had a tough season, with only one win and many blowout losses up to this late point in the season. This statement couldn’t have rung more true at Friday’s game against the Pierce Bears, where the Lions could not tame the opposing offense and lost 16-0 in five innings.

          After winning all three games last week against Winters, the Lady Bulldogs fell in their double-header against Sutter on Tuesday afternoon.

        • Lions Get Blown Out in Offensive Extravaganza Apr. 26, 2013
          The hats, the bats, and even the gnats were out in full force Tuesday when the Lions took on the Spartans of East Nicolaus. The Lions would have one of their best offensive games of the year, yet they also performed some of their worst defense of the year as well. While the sun was nice and shining, the Lions were no match for the offensive East Nicolaus club. Ultimately, the Lions’ poor defense outweighed its offense, and they lost by a stunning score of 27-11 in five innings.
