Robert Olschowka

Robert (Bob) Charles Olschowka passed away at his residence in the presence of his family, on Thursday evening, August 2, 2018.

Bob was born in Gridley, California to Alfred J. Olschowka and Helen E. (Spradling) Olschowka. He lived his entire life in Gridley, graduating from Gridley High School with the class of 1970. Bob was employed at Butte College for 35 years in the Grounds/Maintenance Department. At the time of his retirement he was grounds/maintenance administrator. Bob was born a “handy man” and could repair most anything. He loved restoring vehicles and took great pride in this accomplishment. He enjoyed fishing, camping and spending time at Ft. Bragg with his family. In his earlier years his hobby was entering in car races. Bob truly enjoyed following his favorite sports teams on TV and closely watched the SF 49ers in football season, the SF Giants during baseball season as well as the San Jose Sharks hockey team. During his confinement while battling cancer, these sports teams helped keep his mind occupied.

Bob was predeceased in death by his parents, Alfred and Helen Olschowka.

Bob is survived by his wife of 37 years, Cyndi (Slagle) Olschowka, of Gridley; son, Sean Olschowka, of Chico; daughter, Kelsey Francis, of Gridley; “Special Princess” granddaughter, Savannah Francis, of Gridley; brother, John Olschowka, of Pittsford, New York, and his father-in-law, Gerald Slagle and mother-in-law Dolores Slagle, of Gridley.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Bob and his family have requested Memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements entrusted to Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel.
