Ella Lukza, 91, formerly of Westerlo and Greenville, New York and a former resident of Gridley, passed away peacefully in her home on April 29, 2018.
Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and cousin. Ella was born Ella Gohra in Hoboken, New Jersey on September 14, 1926. She was the daughter of Raymond Gohra and Margaret Tappenbeck Gohra and she was raised by her grandparents on the family’s chicken farm. At the end of World War II, Ella married the love of her life, Alexander, and they shared the most wonderful 72 years together. As a military family, they lived in many different states and countries, including New York, North Carolina, Colorado, California, Washington DC, Germany and England, while raising four loving children. Ella lived her life to care for her family and her extended family of pets, wild birds and farm animals. She enjoyed each cherished moment she spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who made her smile so much. Ella and Al also thoroughly enjoyed every possible opportunity to travel the US and the world. She had an amazing ability to touch people’s lives through her gentle ways, while also adding spark and fun and laughter to just about every situation. Words to describe Ella are: thoughtful, loving, understanding, considerate, selfless, giving and family historian.
Ella is survived by her loving husband, Alexander, children: Michael Lukza (wife Diane), of Rocklin, California, Margaret Taylor, of Lewisburg, Pennsylvania and Janice Lukza, of Cottonwood, California.
She was predeceased in death by her daughter, Jenny Hawes (husband Donnie), of Los Molinos, California and her son, Paul Lukza. Her loss is also deeply mourned by her adored and adoring grandchildren, Christopher Taylor, Katie Crook, Brian Hawes and Michael Taylor and her three great-grandchildren. Ella leaves behind her beloved brother Raymond Gohra (wife Beth) of Colonie, New York.
A private viewing and visitation is scheduled at the Allen and Dahl Funeral Chapel in Anderson, California. Ella will be laid to rest in Westerlo, New York. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to The Willow Springs Special Care Center, 191 Churn Creek Road, Redding, California.
