John Joseph Garcia

John Joseph Garcia, 48, of Biggs, California, passed away May 4, 2012 in Phoenix, Arizona with his family at his side.  Services will be held May 18, 2012, at 2 p.m., at the Gridley Cemetery.
John was born April 18, 1964 to Carmen Cabrera-Garcia and Santos Garcia, in Gridley, California.
John is survived by his wife of twenty years, Kristen Hampton-Garcia; his mother and father; four children: Joshua Garcia, 28, and Stevie Garcia, 26, both of Biggs, California, Jordan Garcia, 17, and Morgan Garcia, 15, both of Glendale, Arizona; two beautiful grandchildren; two brothers Arthur Garcia, of Gridley and Cuauhtemoc Garcia, of Marysville, California; two sisters Santa Garcia, of Gridley and Eryka Abella, of Yuba City California.  He is also survived by 14 nieces and nephews.

Lorene Mae Brown

Lorene Mae Brown, 92 passed away peacefully in Kuna, Idaho on February 8, 2012, at the home of her daughter Alice, with her family around her.
She was born Lorene Mae Sampson on June 14, 1919, in Depew, (Creek Co.) Oklahoma. Her father was Sylvester Sampson, and her mother was Stella Sampson (Barton). She was the second child. She had two brothers Wilmer and Charles, and five sisters Juanita, Faye, Ruth, Joy, and Verde. She attended school in Depew, Oklahoma.  When she was 19 she moved to California where she met and married Bert Brown in 1938. They lived and worked around Gridley and retired from cannery work in 1979. Lorene and Bert had six children and they were her life. She also enjoyed her 21 grand children, 24 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. Titus, one of the last bringing her joy until her last days. She loved to travel, dance, and shop.
Lorene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bert of 42 years, older brother Wilmer, five sisters Juanita, Faye, Joy, Verde, and Ruth.
She is survived by her brother Charles, and her children: sons Leon and (Molly), of Troy, Montana, Jack and (Mary), of Oroville, California, Gary, of Gridley, California, Craig and (Roben) of Beatty, Nevada; daughters Alice and (George), of Kuna, Idaho, Karen and (John), of Troy, Montana.
There will be an informal service held at Gridley-Biggs Cemetery on Friday, May 18, 2012 at 1 p.m.

Linda Lorraine Padilla

A private family service will be held for Linda Lorraine Padilla, 63, of Biggs.  She passed away on May 6, 2012, at her residence in Biggs of natural causes.
Linda was born on July 2, 1948, in Los Angeles, California.  She was a longtime resident of Butte County, having worked for many years as a counselor with Butte County juvenile hall and bay area schools.  She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Hortense Lucero.
Linda is survived by one son John Lucero, of Marysville; three daughters: Vicki Lucero, of Gridley, Jessica Padilla, of Biggs, and JoAnna Mitchell, of Live Oak; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and one brother Richard Lucero, of Honolulu, Hawaii.
Interment will be private.

Harold W. McLean

Funeral services will be held for Harold W. McLlean, 80, of Gridley, on Thursday, May 10, 2012, at 10 a.m., at the Church oF Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Spruce Street, in Gridley.
Harold passed away Thursday May 3, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born on October 2, 1931, in Yuba County to Will and Ella McLean.  A short time later the family moved to the Manzanita area east of Gridley.  It was there that Harold would call home most of his life.  Harold attended local schools, graduating from Gridley High School.  After high school, he attended Cal Poly and Yuba College.  In 1951 he married Linda Hepworth.
Harold was a life long farmer having grown peaches, prunes, walnuts, and row crops.  He also raised registered swine for breeding, and won countless Champions throughout the state of California.  Harold also owned and operated a Feed Store in Gridley for many years, and was a Purina Feeds Field Rep for several years.
He was a member of the CA Canning Peach Association, (for several years was the recipient of the highest quality award.)  He was also a member of the Farm Bureau.h  He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed sharing stories of outings with his family and friends.  Harold's greatest love in life was his family.  He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints having served in many callings, including being a member of the Gridley First and Third Ward Bishoprics.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Virginia Blinn.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Linda McLean, of Gridley; three sons: Mike McLean and wife Loreen, of Gridley, Mark McLean, of Gridley, and Chris McLean and wife Lori, of El Dorado Hills; one daughter Sue Orme and husband Mark, also of Gridley.  He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel in Gridley.  Interment will be at Gridley Biggs Cemetery.
Bishop Justin Tolman of the Gridley Third Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will conduct the services.
Contributions to the Family History Center are suggested by the family, and may be left in care of Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel.

Jean Cunningham, 85, passed away May 1, 2012.  A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 5, 2012, at 11 a.m., at the First Baptist Church in Gridley, on Vermont Street.

Cloradean Juanita McCormick

Cloradean Juanita McCormick 82, of Gridley passed away April 25, 2012 at Rideout Hospital.
Cloradean was born August 23, 1929 in Cushman Arkansas.  She was a long time resident of Gridley.  Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and playing bingo.  She loved watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren play sports.
She is preceded in death by her daughter Lenamae McCormick and great-granddaughter Tiffany Canady.
Cloradean is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Cecil McCormick, of Gridley, one son Cecil James McCormick, of Palermo, California, and one daughter Janet Sandell, of Live Oak, California; eight grandchildren, James McCormick, of Oroville, California, Elizabeth Gomez, of Biggs, California, Brian McCormick, of Palermo, California, DJ Sandell, of Oroville California, Scotty Wood, of Gridley, California, Crystal McCormick, of Palermo, California, Kimberly McCormick, of Gridley, California and Kevin McCormick, of Gridley, California.  She is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren.

Melvyn Curtiss Wangberg

Melvyn Curtiss Wangberg, 68, of Palermo passed away April 21, 2012 in Oroville with his family by his side.  Visitation will be held at Scheer Memorial Chapel, Sunday April 29, 2012 from 1 to 5 p.m.  Services will be held at Scheer Memorial Chapel, April 30, 2012, at 11 a.m.
Melvyn was born August 3, 1943, in Oroville California to Inez and Donald Wangberg, of Paradise, California.  Donald owned a rice farm in Richvale until he retired in the early 70’s.  Both his parents were extremely active and his father served on the board of directors at the Paradise Alliance Church.
Melvyn graduated High School at Biggs High School in 1961 and completed some college courses at Yuba and Butte Community College.  He was employed as a Maintenance Supervisor at Koppers Industries for 33 years, he was also the Chief of the Palermo Volunteer Fire Company No. 72 until he retired in 2010.  He also worked for Butte County Public Works for 6 years.  He was a Butte County Volunteer Fireman Co. 72 for 30 years; Chief, Palermo Community Council Member for 27 years.  He was also a Band Booster Member for 14 years, Ducks Unlimited Member, and a Harley Hog Member.  Melvyn was a loving father and a husband of 41 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his Jack Russell, Rocky.  He was an active member of his community and one of his greatest joys was being of help to others.  He loved to hunt, fish, ride his Harley and spend time with his family.  He has Received Fireman of the Year from the Oroville Rotary 1991, the Resolution of Appreciation and Commendation from the Butte County, Board of Supervisors in 1987 for his role in extinguishing the explosive fire at Koppers Industries.  Served as Grand Marshal for the Las Plumas/Oroville Band Booster Festivo 1993 and also Served as Grand Marshal for the Palermo Field Day Parade 1998.
He was preceded in death by his parents Inez and Donald Wangberg, of Paradise and his brother Douglas Wangberg, of Oroville.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Wangberg, of Palermo, California; daughters, Susan Wangberg, of Alameda, California and Nancy Wangberg, of Chico, California; sister and brother-in-law Mary and Jon Dickey, of Paradise, California; brother Stan Wangberg, of Anderson, brother-in-law Royce Andes, of Biggs, California and brother Maurice Wangberg, of Juneau, Alaska.

Lucille Noel Hobbs

Lucille Noel Hobbs (Aylor), 69, passed away Friday, April 13, 2012.
She lived in Gridley during her young years and loved many while constantly battling medical problems.
She was the daughter of Ramond and Gloria E. Shelton and was the sister of Luanne (deceased), Merrylee Vernazza (Ben), of Aptos, California and Jerold Shelton, of Gridley.
She is survived by her husband Jim, daughter Dana Ellis and son Jeffery, of Chico and Joy Olander (Martin) and her children, Damien and Angelina Olander of Soquele.
Lucille enjoyed gardening and visiting with friends and traveling.  She had a quick wit and had a good sense of humor.  She was kind to the elderly and less fortunate and enjoyed her pets and grandchildren.  She will be missed and always remembered.

Harold Douglas Graves

Harold Douglas Graves,90, of Oroville died at his home with his wife at his side on April 11, 2012.
He was born Aug 13, 1921 in Reed Springs, Stone County, Missouri.  He moved to Oroville in the Spring of 1926 and has been a resident here for 86 years.  He has worked as a logger and miner and a welder in in the Kaiser shipyards in Richman during WWII.  He also worked 33 years the Wyandotte Olive and Growers Plant, Lindsey Olives and Calif Canners.  His position at Wyandotte Olives was Plant manger and industrial engineer and he was always willing to help others with his skills.  He also had a 160 acre ranch and grew olives, rice and prunes.  He had a busy life and was well known for his mechanical abilities. He also loved hunting, fishing and dancing with his wife and friends.
Harold is survived  by his wife of 69 years Esther; nephews, Bill Graves, of Colorado, Ron Graves, of Oroville, Cleo “Red” Steele, of Redding, Kenny Ray and Kevin Owen, both of Gridley, Monte Graves, of Oregon, Rob Graves, of Oroville and Brian Graves, of Arizona; niece, Cathy Graves Martin, of Oroville and great nieces and nephews.
Harold is preceded in death by his last brother William Kenneth Graves who died on November 24, 2011 Thanksgiving Day.  A visitation was held at Scheer Memorial on Sunday, April 15, 1 to 5 p.m.  A funeral service was also held at Scheer on Monday, April 16 at 10 a.m. followed by interment at Memorial Park Cemetery.  Memorial contributions can be made to Y.M.C.A., Oroville Library or to your charity of choice.

Lela Spratling Asp

Lela Asp, 98, of Yuba City, passed away March 20, 2012 at Rideout Memorial Hospital, in Marysville.

Lela was born on November 2, 1913 in Tensed, Idaho. She was the youngest of 12 children born to George and Mary Catherine Billingsley. She moved to California from the state of Washington and settled in Gridley in her early twenties. She resided in Gridley for 50 years. It was here that she met and married Everett H. Spratling in 1938. She was the head cook for the Gridley School District for many years and a wonderful homemaker. Her home was always open to family and friends.

In 1984, she married Gordon Asp and they traveled throughout much of the United States. They resided in Corvallis, Oregon and Yuma, Arizona.

Lela moved to Yuba City in 2004 to be near her family. She was a member of the Widowed Persons Association, the Women of the Moose and Crossroads Community Church. She was an independent lady with a love for life. She loved to dance, travel, and be with people.

Lela is survived by her daughter Lavaune Bell, of Yuba City; grandson Michael Bell and his wife, Kara, of Yuba City; great-grandchildren Katelyn and Wyatt, of Yuba City.

She was preceded in death by husbands Everett and Gordon, her parents and all of her siblings.

A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at 11 a.m., at Crossroads Community Church, in Yuba City, with Pastor Jim Clark officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Lela's memory may be made to Crossroads Community Church, 445 B Street, Yuba City, CA 95991.

Brenda Lynn Schwartz

A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at 12 noon, at the Gridley Moose Lodge for Brenda Lynn Schwartz, 44 of Gridley, California.  She passed away Thursday, April 12, 2012 at Biggs-Gridley Memorial Hospital in Gridley.  
Brenda was born April 17, 1967 in Gridley, California.  She was a life long resident of Gridley having worked construction for many years.  She attended local schools.  She enjoyed riding motorcycles and spending time with her dogs.  Brenda also enjoyed being with her family.  She was a member of the Laborers Union Local # 185 in Yuba City.
Brenda is survived by her loving husband of 17 years, Phil Schwartz, of Gridley, California; her father, Don Womack, of Yam Hill, Oregon and mother, Betty and Step-dad, Bennie Pruitt, of Live Oak, California; three sons: Gregory Smallwood, of Salem, Oregon, Michael Smallwood, of Olathe, Kansas and Geoffrey Smallwood, of Gridley, California; and one daughter, Megan Wilkins, of Oroville, California.  She is also survived by four grandchildren; one brother, Donnie Womack Jr., of Newberg, Oregon, paternal grandparents, Ray and Beth Upton, of Biggs, California and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.
Private inurnment will be held.

Florence L Moilanen

Florence L Moilanen was born June 22, 1930, in Lawton, North Dakota.  She passed away April 3, 2012, at age 82, in Woodland, California.  She had been a Woodland resident for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, August and Agnes Fox; daughter Pam Paschal; brother Robert Fox and an infant grandson.
Florence is survived by grandchildren: Tiffany Brown and Derek Skellchock and four great-grandchildren, all of Colorado; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She is also survived by sisters Myrtle Norton, Eleanore Reynolds and brother Lloyd Fox, of Gridley; sisters Betty Olson, of Yankee Hill, LaVerne Moreau, of Yuba City, and care-givers Robert and Gail Skellchock, of Woodland.
A Memorial Service will be held at Gridley-Biggs Cemetery on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at 2 p.m.

Alvin D. Richins Sr.

A Funeral Service will be held Friday, April 13, 2012 at 10 a.m. at The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints, located on Spruce Street, Gridley, for Alvin D. Richins Sr. 88 of Gridley, California.  He passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at Oroville Hospital, Oroville, California.
Alvin was born May 6, 1923 in Gridley, California.  He was a life long resident of Gridley having owned and operated Richins Tucking.  He also farmed rice for many years. He served in the United States Marine Corp during World Ward II and was stationed overseas.  He was a life long member of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints having served in many callings.  He was also a member of the VFW.  Alvin was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Dorothy Rae Richins, seven brothers and one sister.
Alvin is survived by his loving wife of 12 years, Laura Richins of Gridley, California; two sons: Alvin Richins of Oroville, California and Jimmy Richins of Nor Dakota; and four daughters: Pennie Hopkins of South Jordan, Utah, Janice Busch of Stockton, California, Patsy Dewsnup of Gridley, California and Lisa Hunter of Gridley, California; One step-son, David Barney of Palermo, California and three step-daughters: Alicia Blood of Southern California, Lorie Akard of Oroville, California and Deanna Benton of Oklahoma.  He is also survived by two brothers: Harold Richins of Chico, California and Melvin Richins of Gridley, California; seventeen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Visitation will be held Friday, April 13, 2012 at 9 a.m. at The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints Relief Society Room, located on Spruce Street, Gridley.
Brother Jim Brown of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints will officiate at the services.
Interment will be held at Gridley-Biggs Cemetery.

Orlan F. Ingraham

A Graveside Service will be held Friday, April 13, 2012 at 2 pm at Gridley-Biggs Cemetery for Orlan F. Ingraham, 83 of Gridley, California.  He passed away Friday, March 30, 2012 at his residence. 
Orlan was born January 4, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois.  He was a long time resident of Gridley having owned and operated Ingraham Trucking.  He served in the United States Air Force during World War II and the Korean Conflict where he was stationed overseas.  He retired after over twenty years of service.  He enjoyed hunting and flying model airplanes.  He was a life time member of the Warren McCutcheon VFW Post 5731 Gridley.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Dean Ingraham.
Orlan is survived by his loving wife Evelyn Ingraham, of Gridley, California and one son, Orlan L. Ingraham, of Gridley, California.  He is also survived by one brother, Gordon Ingraham, of Maxwell, California and one sister, Lorna, of Sheldon, Washington; and his mother in-law, Rosalie Zander, of Gridley, California and two sister’s in-law: Jeannie Ingraham, of Nevada and Virginia Kopp, of Gridley, California.
Beal Air Force Base Honor Guard will officiate at the services.
Interment will be held at Gridley-Biggs Cemetery.
Contributions to the American Cancer Society are suggested by the family.

Larry K. Adams

A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at 11 a.m.. at Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel for Larry K. Adams, 67, of Gridley, California.  He passed away Sunday, April 1, 2012, at his residence.  
Larry was born February 7, 1945, in Temple, Texas.  He was a long time resident of Gridley having worked for Manzanita School as a maintenance worker and bus driver.  He enjoyed collecting and shooting guns and collecting knives.  He was an avid fan of PBR – Pro Bull Riding and the Green Bay Packers Football team.  He served in the United States Army during Viet Nam and was stationed overseas.  His four granddaughters were the apple of his eye.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Lowren Adams and one brother, James Adams.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Christine Adams of Gridley, California; two sons: Delany Adams of Stillwell, Oklahoma and Guy Adams of Yuba City, California; and one daughter, Jami Adams of Gridley, California.  He is also survived by seven grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Contributions to the Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation are suggested by the family.

Harlan Delbert Lee

A Graveside Service was held Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at 2 P.M. at Gridley-Biggs Cemetery for Harlan Delbert Lee, 89 of Gridley, California.  He passed away Thursday, March 29, 2012 at Gridley Health Care and Wellness Center in Gridley.
Harlan was born September 6, 1922 in Solway, Minnesota.  He was a long time resident of Gridley having worked for Butte County Mosquito Abatement.  He loved his Lord and had a strong relationship with Him.  He served in the US Army during WWII.  Harlan was a member of Lighthouse Tabernacle in Gridley.  
He was preceded in death by two wives: Bernice Lee and Jeannie Jordan; one son, Michael Lee, one daughter, Barbara Lee; his parents; two brothers: Dennis Lee and Alvin Lee and one grandson, Jason Lee.
Harlan is survived by one son, Kenneth (Wanda) Lee, of Colusa, California and one daughter, Karen Lee, of Oroville, California.  He is also survived by one sister, Opal Williams, of Indiana and one granddaughter, Jennifer Ochoa, of Texas and two great-grandchildren.
A Visitation was held Tuesday, April 3, 2012 from 5 PM to 8 PM at Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel.
Pastor Bill Hammond of Lighthouse Tabernacle in Gridley will officiate at the services.
Interment will be held at Gridley-Biggs Cemetery, Gridley, California.

Carl Edward Ferguson

A Funeral Service will be held Monday, April 2, 2012 at 3:00 P.M. at Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel for Carl Edward Ferguson, 82 of Gridley, California.  He passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at his residence in Gridley.  

Carl was born May 25, 1929 in Bainsville, Montana.  He was a long time resident of Gridley having owned and operated his own trucking business.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing the guitar.  He was also a former member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Gridley No. 1594.  Carl was dearly loved and will be missed by many.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Loretta Ferguson; two brothers and two sisters.

Carl is survived by one son, Wayne Ferguson of Gridley, California; one daughter, Cynthia Van Buren of Oroville, California; three step-sons: Gene Hurst of Dorris, California, Don McFarland of Portland, Oregon and Marc McFarland of Klamath Falls, Oregon; and one step-daughter, Rhonda Willis of Burney, California.  He is also survived by one sister, Ileene Eklund of Lewistown, Montana and two grandchildren: Ashley Van Buren of Oroville, California and Jaclyn Van Buren of Oroville, California

A Visitation will be held Sunday, April 1, 2012 from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel.

Pastor Steve Terry will officiate at the services.

Interment will be held at Gridley-Biggs Cemetery
