CHIEF KEELER GETS A TASTE OF 'JAIL' - Gridley-Biggs Police Chief Gary Keeler looked lonely last year so he is inviting others to join him once again this year in the Chamber of Commerce's Unjustice Court at Daddow Park. Get-out-of-jail cards are available at the Chamber office for $25.

Pancakes, bed and tire races, classic cars and a power jump all sound like a good time for Saturday, May 21, 2011, especially since all this will be happening at the 49th Annual Red Suspenders Day Parade in Downtown Gridley.

Daddow Park will be filled to capacity with vendors of every sort, whether it is food, drinks, art pieces or Red Suspenders t-shirts at the Chamber of Commerce booth.

Working hard to pull off this immense fun-filled day is Chamber Manager Christine Cunningham, who started her new job last year just before the annual event that brings thousands to downtown Gridley to see their friends and family in the hour-long parade. If last year's event, being her first time is any indication, this year's event will prove to be even better since she has one of these jam packed events under her belt already.

The North Butte Lodge and Knights of Columbus are sponsoring the annual Little League Breakfast in Daddow Park from 7 a.m., to 11 a.m.

Vendors will be set up by 8 a.m. and the children's activities will begin at 9 a.m. in Rotary Park. Cunningham has some great things planned for the children such as a disc jockey providing music, dunk booth, Zippy Pets, Ride-a-Long Carts, a power jump and and bounce house with a slide. The Bed and Tire races will line up at 9 a.m. and begin racing at 9:30 a.m. This is never boring and brings lots of laughs as riders struggle to put their nightshirt on while careening down Virginia Street.

Entries for the parade can be turned in until Monday, May 16 and can be emailed to you just by calling 846-3142. Entries can be dropped off at the Chamber office Monday through Friday from 10 a.m., to 2 p.m.

Vendors are asked to get hold of Christine as she is still looking for vendors for Daddow and Rotary Parks.

Following the parade there is plenty of entertainment lined up whether it be the sounds of "No Boundaries," band in the Gazebo, Gridley Recreation's Pinewood Derby at 1 p.m., or Trike Race Contests for youth and adults or the Good Vibrations Square Dancing Group performing at 3:30 p.m. There are still plenty of Pinewood Derby cars available so call Malanee at 846-3264 to get in on this fun event!

Max's Miracle Ranch will be providing trackless train rides for a donation for the second year and don't forget the Firemen's Water Games on Washington Street facing Rotary Park. This event always provides lots of splashing water and fun for the kids as they cool off.

Don't miss the Pie Eating Contest in Daddow Park following the parade, sure to draw a crowd.

The day before, Friday, will be a lot of fun starting with the Unjustice Court in Daddow Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Warrants for arrest will be in The Gridley Herald Friday, May 13 and Wednesday, May 18 and available at the Chamber office. It's always fun to have your co-workers, boss or spouse arrested so that they have to be bailed out, all as a fund raiser for the Chamber. Of course pizza and sodas are very much appreciated by those being arrested.

That night, the annual Guns & Hose, softball game between the Gridley Fire Department and Gridley Police Department is a bruising good time at Vierra Park starting at 7 p.m.
