When the Gridley High School Band raised the $124,000, necessary to make the December trip to Hawaii to participate in the Pearl Harbor Memorial thanks to many very generous people far and wide, they could not anticipate the addition of five new band members transferring from other schools in this school year.
The addition of five new band members necessitates more fund raising such as the cabinet being raffled off November 19, 2011. The cabinet was built and donated by Caldwell Cabinets and Herman's Glass and $10 tickets are available at Children's Hope Foster Family Agency, Les Schwab Tire, The Wishing Corner and ACE Hardware.
The band is hosting a "Veterans Appreciation Dinner," Saturday, November 19, 2011, at the Gridley Community Center but this is not a fund raiser for the band, merely a token of appreciation for area veterans. The winner of the cabinet will be chosen that night.
The cost for each student is approximately $1,500 each to travel to Hawaii with accommodations.
