Welvie Biggs, 89, of Biggs, was taken home to her Lord Dec. 20, 2011, just four days shy of her 90th birthday. She was born Dec. 24, 1921 in Red Oak, Okla. to George Samuel and Emily Amanda (Mobley) Pointer. She married James Delton Biggs Dec. 23, 1938 in El Reno, Oklahoma. In 1955 Jim and Welvie moved to Yuba City with their three children, J.D., Joyce and Ann, and in 1957 the family moved to Biggs.

Welvie had many talents and hobbies. She raised Arabian horses and belonged to the Pageant Riders and later the Golden Feather Riders. Many of her grandchildren spent countless hours with her caring for the horses or riding along side her on the trails. She was also a member of HUB Camera Club and was an avid nature photographer, winning many, many ribbons at the local fairs.

Welvie is survived by her children, J.D. Biggs of Big Lake, Alaska, Joyce Biggs and Ann Anderson (Gene) of Biggs; her sister, Dorothy Houston of Enid, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, James Biggs; her brothers, Dorris, Grant and Dude Pointer; her sister, Winnie Hedrick; and great-grandchildren, Hunter and Lindsey Shippelhoute.

A visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. December 27 at Gridley Block Funeral Home, 679 Ohio Street, Gridley. A memorial service will begin at 3 p.m. December 28 at the Gridley Senior/Community Center in Vierra Park, 196 Washington Street. In lieu of flowers, go for a walk, take photos, and take the time to look for and appreciate the little things in life, just as Welvie always did.
