All five people involved in a high speed crash on Highway 99 on Sunday at 1:40 p.m. survived, with one driver being life-flighted to Enloe Medical Center in Chico.
Gridley's Catrina Ballance, 33, was driving a 2000 Dodge Caravan southbound on the highway with three passengers, including two daughters, said CHP investigating officer Michael Ticknor.
Gridley's Leonard Peter, 90, was traveling westbound on E. Evans Reimer Rd. in a 1995 Ford Ranger and failed to see the Caravan as he headed across the highway.
Peter was broadsided in the intersection and both cars rolled into a ditch on the west side of the highway. Due to the damage to Peter's vehicle, he was flown by helicopter to Enloe. As of Tuesday, he is listed in fair condition.
All four people in the other vehicle were taken to Biggs-Gridley Memorial Hospital where they were treated for minor injuries and released.
"They're very fortunate," Ticknor said.
All seat belts were used, and no alcohol was involved. The accident is still under investigation.
