With the temperatures in the North Valley getting in the 100° plus range we all need to do what we can to stay cool. Most of us have the air-conditioner running at full capacity and we manage to stay comfortable. But what to do when the air-conditioner fails because of a malfunction or a power failure? To stay in a hot room can be quite dangerous, especially for the elderly, the ill, or for people on certain medications. Getting too hot with no place to cool down can be an emergency!
Biggs- Gridley Memorial Hospital is offering a cool space for those who need cooling off when other air-conditioned space is not available. The hospital has (limited) space available, both in the conference room in the Health Services Building and in a couple of spaces in the hospital building itself. In case of a city-wide power outage the spaces in the hospital building will remain cool by way of the hospital’s emergency generator.
There is no charge for coming in for shelter during a heat emergency. For information about this emergency cooling off program you may call the hospital at 846-5671 and ask for Kirsten Storne- Piazza.
