One designated smoking location is now available to visitors and employees of Biggs-Gridley Memorial Hospital, in preparation for a non-smoking campus effective January 1, 2010.

A non-smoking facility will be for everyone, with the exception of any residents of the skilled nursing facility. Residents of Hovlid Community Care Center are protected by  law.  Smoking privileges cannot be taken away from residents, but currently, there are no residents who smoke at the skilled nursing facility.

Also, citing a community health issue, the Butte County Fairgrounds has announced a smoke-free environment effective this year.

The one temporary designated area for smokers at the hospital is  a cement area between the Emergency Room department and the CT coach.
