The end of a long time tradition is in store for Downtown Gridley, as Bremer Hardware comes to an end in February.

Known originally as Standard Hardware in the 1920’s to 1940, appliances could be purchased there along with milking machines for the diaries in the area. Bought by Dutch and Dorothea Bremer in 1940, the store featured hardware items, along with sporting goods of course. Bremer’s also featured a bridal registry that no doubt, helped make thousands of weddings special, as brides to-be registered for the wedding gifts that would help their guests buy just the right item. When Keith and Peggy Harshbarger bought the store in 1994, there were still parts for the milking machines in the store.
