COTTONWOOD – Runnin’ in the rain.
No, it’s not the name of an old Fred Astaire movie.
It’s the conditions area prep athletes had to endure at last Friday night’s CIF Northern Section meet at West Valley High School.
But with tickets to this weekend’s state meet in Clovis on the line, those athletes had to adapt, suck it up, and get it done.
Persistent chilly rain made for miserable conditions all night long.
A pair of Biggs athletes were competing in multiple events and both can be proud of their performances on this wet, chilly night in northern California.
Seniors Daniel Velasquez and Bryce Scott were both hoping to extend their seasons by another week.
Velasquez finished second in the 400-yard dash (50.58), a mere half a second off the winning pace of Foothill’s Jayden Gordon (50.08).
Velasquez was also fourth in the 200-meter dash (23.99).
Scott, meanwhile, was seventh in the 300-meter hurdles (40.83). He also finished sixth in the high jump (5-8).
Other area performers at the NSCIF meet included:
*Live Oak’s Jagger Baines, who was second in the 100-meter dash (11.46);
*Live Oak’s Cameron Contreras, who finished eighth in the 400-meter dash (54.48).
