Retired in the rank of Major, after 28 years of Active and Reserve military service Cliff Wagner has served in the United States Army in a wide range of positions, including armor crewman (tank gunner), paratrooper, drill sergeant, basic combat training executive officer and company commander. Mobilized in 2005 for Operation Iraqi Freedom as company commander, Wagner served 12 months with the Multinational Division Central South. For his distinguished service in Iraq, Wagner was awarded the United States Bronze Star, the National Defense Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Medal. He was also awarded the Medal of Civic Honor by the National Conference of State Legislators.
Wagner has served in the Assembly and Senate for over 23 years – as Chief of Staff for over 15 years and presently serves as Chief of Staff to Assemblyman Steven Choi. He has served as Chief of Staff or Principal Consultant to the Senate and Assembly Republican Leader.
Wagner received a commission in the United States Army Reserve in December 1993, graduation from California State University, Chico with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. In May 1997, Wagner completed a Master of Arts degree in Political Science from California State University, Chico.
He presently resides in Biggs with his wife, Marla, and their two sons, Skylar and Alexander.
Memorial services will be held Monday May 28, 2018 at 10 a.m. at the Gridley Biggs Cemetery.
