There have been countless honors, accolades and memories for the Warren H. McCutcheon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5731 in Gridley since 1946 and the post has just added one major accomplishment for the first time.

Life member Cheyenne Bart has been named the first female Commander for Post 5731. Having served in the Navy with one deployment to the Persian Gulf Operation Southern Watch on the USS Stump, Bart was one of the first group of females on this Destroyer.

Spending the first nine years of her life in Quincy, Bart now lives in Richvale with her three sons and is the niece of Vice Commander Norris Anderson, Jr., and grand daughter to the late Norris Anderson, Sr., a well-known Richvale resident for many years known as the accordion master.

Bart always knew she wanted to serve in the military and is very proud to be able to serve her post in this new capacity. She was nominated for the honor at last months meeting of the Post and will officially take over in June. She looks forward to attaining new members and retaining current ones. She knows the job means fund raising but it is helping other veterans in need that she finds most important about her new position.

VFW Auxiliary President Lynne Spencer stated she is looking forward to working with Bart and knows good things will happen during her watch.

Though this was a first for this post, a female Commander, both ladies stated the members are very supportive.

Bart looks forward to encouraging people to give back and hoping to find those who want to help by becoming a member of the VFW.

Bart can be reached at 530-520-3112 for more information and to join.
