Though he grew up in Southern California, Mike Hall says he understands the small town community feeling that Biggs and Richvale residents enjoy.
Working in Gridley for 17 months before the sad loss of Postmaster Liz Whiteford in January, Hall is now the Postmaster of Biggs and Richvale post offices.
Hall has been with the United States Postal Service since 2005 when he started in Chico where he lives with his wife and two sons.
When he isn't working the family enjoys camping, boating and just spending time together.
Although the Biggs and Gridley are not far in proximity, the postal delivery is different as everyone in the City limits of Biggs has post office box delivery of mail. The town of Biggs has never had mail delivered to their door, other than in the county and it can be trying at times.
Much of the mail, in particular packages, comes addressed to actual home addresses which means they get delayed because it is up to the Postmaster and his crew to look up the PO boxes for notification.
Hall stated he is doing everything he can to straighten this matter out. He explained it is a busy time for the postal service right now with so much political mail going out, stating "It is like Christmas all over again."
When asked how much online shopping has affected the local post office, Hall stated he still sees a lot of catalogs going in the PO boxes that people want to order from. His office still sells money orders.
"I get to know the people and I enjoy meeting new people every day," he said.
Biggs Post Office side door is open Saturdays from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., for parcel pickup and to pick up vacation holds.
"We can't mail anything but they can pick up packages and their mail. We just can't ship anything," he explained. "This way the community can pick up packages in a timely manner."
The Richvale post office is open five days a week 12:30 to 4:30 p.m.
