Gridley High School’s baseball team keeps rolling as the last week of the 2018 regular season beckons.

The Bulldogs defeated Wheatland, 6-3 at home on Tuesday and traveled to Willows on Wednesday for a 7-1 win.

On Tuesday at home against Wheatland, the Bulldogs got a complete-game effort on the mound from Kellen Brothers, who struck out 10.

Gridley got single runs in the second and third frames, then added three in the fourth and one in the fifth.

Connor Alexander went 2-for-3 with two RBIs to help lead the Bulldogs at the plate. Jace Villapania was 2-for 3 with a run scored.

On Wednesday at Willows, Villapania got the win on the mound, going five innings and striking out six. Dylan Coats tossed two innings of mopup work.

Lance Santerre was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs for Gridley in the win. Alexander was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored.

The Bulldogs were scheduled to play their third game in as many days Thursday afternoon at Wheatland.

In other area prep baseball action from earlier this week, Biggs fell to Chester on the road, 24-5.

Bulldogs compete at West Valley

A number of Gridley High School track and field athletes competed at the West Valley Invitational at Harrison Stadium in Oroville last Friday.

Samantha Smith finished third in the girls 100-meter hurdles (17.80, a PR).

The Bulldogs’ girls 4x100-meter relay team of Alyra Andes, Ziara Bandilla, Selina Santillan and Samantha Corona was fourth (59.93).

Lorena Martinez finished second in the girls 300-meter hurdles (52.2).

Kevin McCormick ran a personal best in the boys 3,200 meters with a time of 12:37.57, shaving off 1:02.2 (personal record).

Other Bulldog athletes competing at the West Valley Invitational included Alyra Andes in the 100-meter dash (14.05, a PR) and the high jump (4-04); Zira Bandilla in the 100-meter dash (14.85); Lorena Martinez in the 300-meter hurdles (52.22, a PR); Brianna Ramirez in the discus (52-10); Rubi Tena in the triple jump (28-02); and Samantha Corona in the triple jump: (30-01.5, a PR).
