With the approach of the 2018 gardening season, the CSU, Chico University Farm is hosting a plant sale over three weekends in April. The public plant sale will begin on Saturday, April 14, 2018, and will run Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through April 29. The hours of operation are noon to 5 p.m. on Fridays and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekends.
Plants available for sale include organic vegetable and herb starts, annual and perennial flowers, and other plants ranging in price from $2 to $5. The plants were grown at the University Farm greenhouses in collaboration with the Chico State Organic Vegetable Project, the Crop Science and Horticulture Club and numerous classes offered through the College of Agriculture. Greenhouse technician Matt Housley said the project expands opportunities for students to gain experience in plant science and nursery production.
“We have more and more students with an interest in plant science, and growing vegetable starts is a great way to give them hands-on experience and see pretty immediate results,” he said.
The University Farm is located at 311 Nicholas C. Schouten Lane in Chico. For more information, contact Matt Housley at 530-898-6023 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
