The pedestrian Victim of the April 2, 2018 Hit and Run Fatality Traffic Collision in Gridley has been identified as Maria Dejesus Gomez, age 48 of Gridley. Ms. Gomez was a long-time resident of Gridley.
On April 1, 2018, at approximately 9:07PM, the Gridley-Biggs Police Department (GBPD) and CalFire Paramedics responded to a Traffic Collision (vehicle versus pedestrian) on Magnolia Street at the intersection with Haskell Street. GBPD Officers arrived on scene and conducted an investigation.
The preliminary investigation revealed an unknown vehicle struck Maria Gomez in the intersection roadway crosswalks and fled the collision scene westbound on Magnolia Street. Ms. Gomez had major life threatening injuries and was transported to Gridley's Orchard Hospital and then to Enloe Hospital in Chico for advance care. On April 2nd, Ms. Gomez succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased.
The Gomez family has asked for prayers and privacy during their time of loss. The family is strongly encouraging the public to assist with any information leading to identifying the suspect vehicle in the incident and the associated responsible driver. GBPD Officers recovered evidence on scene that may lead to the identity of the vehicle involved and continue to review video surveillance from the surrounding area.
