The Gridley Unified School Board approved the hiring of Kelly Haight as the new full time principal at Sycamore Middle School. Kathy Wheeler and Mike Pilakowski have been serving as Principal and Vice Principal at Sycamore the past year and a half.

Haight has worked 21 years in education, 12 years as a teacher and nine as an administrator. She is currently Associate Principal at Red Bluff High School, served as Principal at Orland's CK Price Middle School three years and Principal at Mill Street Elementary School in Orland five years. Haight received her Masters and Bachelor's Degree at Chico State University.

Haight told board members, "I believe I accomplished the most, and therefore became particularly partial to the rural education system having spent eight years as an administrator in my previous district. I believe that in such a setting, an understanding of and a strong working relationship with the community are the most critical elements of a successful school leader. Also critical is the fact that I am bilingual in Spanish and because of that, the Hispanic families expressed renewed comfort in communicating with their school. In each of my schools, I am proud of the strong, professional relationships I form with my staff and parents that result in a calmer, more stable and supportive workplace. i unify and I lead. I am excited about the opportunity to lead Sycamore Middle School and to be part of the Gridley Unified School District."

In other matters, the board approved a contract with Nichols, Melberg and Rossetto for a modular classroom at Wilson Elementary in the amount of $28,800 for Special Education and a change order with American Modular Systems (AMS) to add a 10x32 foot workroom for the physical education equipment at the west end of the classroom in the amount of $63,740. The Board also approved a change order with AMS to install concrete floors in the amount not to exceed $15,000.
