It takes a lot of planning to prepare for farmers, certification permits, county health department applications, sending applications out and seeking new vendors.

Then here comes the Certified Farmers Market. We have many vendors and since the revitalization of Daddow Park our vendors can not pull their vehicles in to unload their items into their booth space.

Do you have a teenager at home that sits all day on a computer or phone, strapped to electronics never going outside and soaking in the beautiful day that awaits?

This is a good opportunity to be a community volunteer. Every Tuesday from 5 to 7:30 p.m., the Farmers Market needs youth to help with our vendors, unloading and loading their cars. They help us at our Chamber information booth as well.

Service club, organizations, FFA/4H do you need a special community project? A volunteer job for the Chamber of Commerce looks good on any college application. The students of Mi Casa After School Program helped us at every market last year. They enjoyed the market and we received many compliments and thanks from the vendors for their help. Each volunteer was presented with a certificate award at the end of the market. This teaches responsibility, accountability and work ethic.

Please call the Gridley Area Chamber of Commerce at 846-3142 or visit 890 Hazel Street Monday, Wednesday or Friday 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., to volunteer. Gridley Farmers Market will begin June 5 and end August 14, 2018.
