The Spring 2018 Butte-Glenn GOTR 5K, slated for Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. will take place at a new and exciting location, Butte College’s beautiful main campus.
Girls on the Run is a physical activity-based, positive youth development program that uses fun running games and dynamic discussions to teach life skills to girls in 3rd to 8th grade. During the 10-week program, girls participate in lessons that foster confidence, build peer connections and encourage community service while they prepare for the end-of-season celebratory “graduation” GOTR 5K event. This spring more than 250 girls participating in the Girls on the Run and Heart & Sole programs will get to run on Butte College’s campus.
Participation in the GOTR 5K event is also open to the public and proceeds from the event will benefit Girls on the Run of the North State. Early registration fee by April 5 is $25 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under.
“It makes perfect sense to have an empowerment program’s celebratory event on a college campus,” said Claire Johnson, executive director. “Throughout Girls on the Run’s 10-week after school program, the girls hear that their potential is limitless. Giving them the opportunity to see Butte College’s campus is a great way for them to experience an avenue available to them to achieve their future goals.” The Butte College 5K course will give the girls a chance to see the entire main campus while running around its buildings, along its wildlife refuge and three ponds, past the football field and more.
