At a recent Gridley Lions Club meeting, before Lions, their families, parents, and friends, Sierra Spears was declared the winner of this years Gridley Lions Student Speaker Contest that was held in the Lions Den on south Washington Street. Sierra, a sophomore attending Gridley High School was speaking in the 84th annual contest on a topic that is important to all in our communities today. The speech was entitled, "Integrity and Civility Play What Role in Today's Society?". All students in Gridley High School, or are home schooled are invited to compete. Sierra was awarded a $100 cash prize for her effort and will compete at the Zone Level to be held on March 7. This Zone contest will also include any students that have won their local club contests in Biggs, Oroville, and Live Oak. This contest will be held at the Lions Den located in Gridley and will begin at 7 p.m. The public is invited to this contest.
