A Gridley man was sentenced to life in prison February 22 after being convicted of possession of more than 6,000 images of child pornography.
Butte County Superior Court Judge Michael Deems sentenced Ricky Leach, 56, to life in prison pursuant to California’s Three Strikes Law. Leach had two prior convictions for forcible rape in the 1980’s.
At a court trial on December 8, 2017, Judge Deems found Leach guilty of possession of child pornography. Because of the convictions, Leach was found to be in violation of his probation in a case where he had been previously convicted of two counts of possession of methamphetamine.
Testimony during the trial revealed Leach had thousands of images of child pornography on his cell phone and computer. It was further discovered that some of the pornographic photographs found in his possession were of his own juvenile daughter. Leach is pending further child molest charges in Tehama County involving this daughter.
Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey said, “We are pleased that California’s Three Strikes Law was able to work in this case to keep our community safe from a dangerous predator.”
