The wins just continue to pile up for the Gridley boys and girls basketball teams.
And that’s great news for both, because with the playoffs beckoning, records and head-to-head matchups become crucial for seeding purposes.
Tuesday night, the Bulldog boys hosted Corning, and came out on the right end of a 59-48 decision.
At Corning, meanwhile, the Gridley girls had a more difficult time of things, eking out a 36-34 win over the Cardinals.
At Farmer’s Hall, Brian Wilkerson paced the Bulldogs with 21 points. Wyatt Dreesmann added 11 as Gridley improved to 18-5 overall on the 2017-18 season.
The Bulldogs led 14-9 at the first stop in this one and 31-21 at halftime.
Gridley coach Chay Dake liked his team’s intensity on both ends of the floor.
“Corning’s a very good team,” Dake said. “This wasn’t a league game, but it could come into play in seeding.”
Dake, as always, wanted to share credit for the win with assistant coaches David Tull, Sam Cota and Quinn Spring.
Cota and Spring are both former players, members of the 2015-16 Bulldog team that won Gridley’s first GIBT game in more than a decade en route to a CIF Northern Section title.
At Corning, meanwhile, it was Maddyson Tull leading the way for the Bulldogs, with 11 points and nine rebounds, just missing out on a double-double. Kennedy Tull had 10 points. Lauren Erickson chipped in with six points and 10 boards, and Zaira Bandilla added nine points and seven rebounds.
The Gridley girls were scheduled to host Orland Thursday night. Senior Night festivities were on the agenda.
The Gridley boys travel to Orland Friday night.
