Ridgecrest police officers arrested a 34-year-old San Diego man Wednesday night for alleged assault with a deadly weapon after a fight broke out at Schooners on North Norma Street.
According to police reports, when officers arrived, they learned a person was attempting to break up a fight and was trying to keep the suspect, Christopher Gutierrez, away from another involved subject.
That's when Gutierrez struck the victim in the head with a large glass beer mug, according to the report.
"The victim[suffered] two large lacerations on his head as a result, requiring multiple stitches and staples," the RPD police report states.
Gutierrez reportedly fled the scene in his pickup truck but officers obtained the license plate number. RPD passed the information on to China Lake Police Department, who was able to locate and Gutierrez detain as he attempted to enter the base.
RPD arrested the man for assault; Gutierrez also had an active warrant for his arrest for driving on a suspended license.
