It was a pretty good weekend for the Gridley High School boys basketball team at the Oroville Tournament this past weekend.
The Bulldogs dropped their first Oroville Tourney contest, 63-49, to Shasta on Thursday. The loss dropped the Bulldogs into the consolation bracket, where they had success the rest of the tournament.
Gridley dropped to 9-5 with the tourney opening loss to Shasta, a game that was close until the fourth quarter, according to Gridley coach Chay Dake. Grant Tull led the way for the Bulldogs with 28 points.
In a consolation bracket semifinal game on Friday, Gridley exploded for 21 points in the third quarter against Colusa and then had to hold on down the stretch for a 62-59 win.
Tyler Little had a double-double with 25 points and 16 rebounds, and Tull added 14 points and five boards. Brian Wilkerson also cracked double figures with 22 points.
The Bulldogs faced Paradise in the consolation championship contest. Gridley prevailed, 58-51.
Little again tallied a double-double with 23 points and 20 rebounds. Tull had 12 points and Jorge Moran chipped in with eight.
Gridley was set to open BVL play against Orland Tuesday night.
Gonzalez 55, Biggs 49
At BIggs, the Wolverines fell to 4-9 with their third straight loss.
Brian Caro had 11 points for Biggs and Eli Melendez added nine.
Biggs was slated to travel to Maxwell to open MVL play Tuesday night.
