It was a pretty good year for prep football in our area.

Gridley, under new coach Matt Kemmis, turned around last year's 1-9 mark and went 8-2 in the 2017 regular season, (9-3 overall) making the playoffs and hosting a game for the first time since 2006.

The Bulldogs defeated Corning, 28-7 at the Boneyard in the first round before losing to Sutter, 55-13 at Sutter in the CIF Northern Section Division 3 semifinals.

Biggs, meanwhile, defending CIF Northern Section Division 5 champions, returned to the playoffs as well, downing Quincy, 14-7 in the first round before falling on the road at Chester, 28-16 in the semifinals.

Live Oak struggled as former coach Jim Arostegui returned to the sideline, going 1-9. The Lions' lone win came at Willows, where Live Oak defeated the Honkers, 21-7.

For the second straight year, the Gridley Herald  presents its All-Area Football Team.
