The amount of people out on Wednesday night for holiday fun was amazing starting with the Orchard Hospital Tree Lighting which was in the hundreds and the parade, with people six to eight deep at least on Hazel Street was said to be well over a thousand.
The Winter Wonderland Festival hosted by the Gridley Area Chamber of Commerce with immense help from the Gridley-Biggs Electric Department included 30 vendors who were very happy with the magnitude of lights that made shopping that much easier for holiday gift giving.
The parade route was cleared by Gridley-Biggs Police Officer Jim Roberts with the American Legion and VFW Honor Guard starting the parade.
The parade itself was excellent with judges Daniel Byers, Margie Bates and Cindy Townsend proclaiming it very hard to make final decisions. Thank you judges.
The floats were spectacular especially with the darling children with their big smiles. First place honors went to Manzanita 4-H, second place Gridley-Biggs Electric and third place Ace Hardware. Everyone is to be commended for a great job with their lights, their enthusiasm and excitement to be included.
Many thanks to Brian Bassett and Brad Evans for announcing and adding their own personalities to make it a fun event.
The City's Electric and Public Works Department had not only prepared the big tree at Orchard Hospital for the Tree Lighting but they also made sure that Daddow Park and downtown Gridley were well lit for the event.
Many thanks to the Gridley Lions Club for lining the parade entrants up and always doing a fine job of making it go smooth. Not only did they organize the parade line up they also had a food booth in front of the museum.
Gridley-Biggs Police were out helping in any way they could and they are very appreciated for not only Wednesday evening but for attending the Chamber meetings to plan such a big event.
Gridley and Biggs Fire Departments also are a big help in planning starting months ahead.
The parade would not be possible without the sponsors support: Napa Butte Auto, Orchard Hospital, The City of Gridley, Ace Hardware, Kids' Castle, Gridley Lions Club, The Make-Up Room, Quota Club of Gridley, Nacho's Electric, Gridley Rotary Club, Ben Toilet Rental, Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel, The Gridley Herald, The Blaze 93.0, Legend Soundworks, Holycross Memorial, Wheeler Ranch and Feed and Feather Falls Casino.
The Chamber is collecting food for the food closets along with Toys for Tots at the Chamber Monday, Wednesday and Friday 10 a.m., to 2 p.m.
Many thanks to Key Club, Mi Casa and Gridley High Leadership for your help in cleaning up.
Santa Claus of course was a huge hit not only in the parade but of course as the children sat on his lap at the Gridley Museum. This was a great ending to a perfect night. Family fun for all!
