Evalyn Jones of Gridley is the first Live Oak High School FFA member on record to receive the American FFA Degree at the National Convention. Jones, a 2016 graduate, completed all of the necessary requirements, of which there are many to qualify for this very high honor.
"It is no surprise to me that Evalyn Jones received this award. As a student, Evalyn epitomized, dedication, integrity, professionalism, work ethic and grit. Couple that with the fact that she is an outstanding, loyal, caring person that exemplifies goodness, and you have all the makings of an American FFA Degree recipient. Live Oak High School is extremely proud of Evalyn and her accomplishments, stated Live Oak High Principal Tony Walton.
Also attending the five day convention in Indianapolis was Jones' brother Orrin, who served as a delegate for the convention, the second year to attend the national convention.
Other Live Oak students to attend the convention were Bella Dana, Lizzy Allan, Shelby Foster, Dedra Foster and Natasia Selvidge along with Ag Advisor Stephanie Allan.
The Live Oak contingency traveled to Washington DC following their time at the Convention, enjoying tours of the Lincoln Memorial; the Washington Monument; World War II, Vietnam and Korean War Memorials and Arlington Cemetery where they witnessed the changing of the guard.
Orrin Jones was impressed with everything about the FFA Convention, especially the amount of people there with so many different states represented with different accents heard.
