The added stress of ancillary costs not covered by medical insurance is something grieving families of cancer patients should not have to deal with during a time of sadness and loss.
A grass roots organization, the North Valley Sparrow Foundation was formed to help these families with board members who understand and have each been impacted by cancer in their families.
Though Minden King lost her mother to ALS, she has been involved with close friends who have lost family members to cancer and knows the impact the families have financially and emotionally.
Facing the illness and getting the families through this most difficult time is what drives each of the North Valley Sparrow Foundation board members.
The first fund raiser for this foundation will be a Great Gatsby Fund Raiser to be held at Gold Country Casino Saturday, September 30 called Gathering Hope Gala Inaugural Black-Tie event. This kick-off for the fund raising efforts for financial and emotional services to families impacted by cancer throughout 18 counties in Northern California will begin at 5 p.m.
A hosted social hour and silent auction will begin the evening followed by dinner and a program at 6:30 p.m., a Live Auction beginning at 8 p.m., and dancing to a live band to begin at 9 p.m.

President of this organization is Kim Fesler and Vice President is Kathryn Sheppard. Cheryl Argetsinger is Treasurer and King is a Co-Secretary with Michelle Solis. Each of these ladies have been impacted by cancer in one way or another through family members and are happy to be able to help others.
