Friday night's annual Harvest Bowl football game between Gridley and Live Oak will include a salute to local veterans. Gridley High's Leadership Class is looking for veterans to attend and gather on the field before the beginning of the varsity game which normally starts between 7:30 and 8 p.m. In order to be announced and participate please call Annette Boone at 846-4791 Ext. 242 or email Jennifer Davidson at to participate.

On Saturday, the Northern Recon Group will host a Living History Day at the carnival area of the Butte County Fairgrounds from 11 a.m., to 3 p.m., complete with military vehicles honoring all veterans with special attention to World War II veterans. All veterans and their families are encouraged to come to this event to view the display areas covering World War II/Korea, Vietnam and current day military.

At 1 p.m., a special ceremony will be held honoring Ensign Fran Burke, United States Merchant Marine from Petaluma, California. This event will be held at the Pearl Harbor Memorial.

This event is open to the public with free admission and free parking. Please enter at the East Gridley Road carnival gate.
