With McKinley Principal Chris McIntire the only returning principal of Gridley Unified School District's administrative team, a new regime is getting used to their new jobs this week.

Gridley High Assistant Principal Rikki Lee Burresch comes to Gridley High from Cedarville in the Surprise Valley area where the school she served as principal served four different towns.

Burresch is excited to be a part of the new team with fresh ideas for the district.

"I feel very comfortable in a community like Gridley which is very similar to the area I come from," she stated.

Noting the sense of community both here and in Surprise Valley, Burresch said she chuckles when she meets someone here to tells her it is a small town because the school she left had 125 students. She served a principal there two years and last year she served as the principal of the elementary school also.

"I am very fortunate to have such a qualified and dedicated person to partner with in leading this school. She brings the knowledge of sitting in the principal role and she understands the importance of community and relationships. She is truly an asset for me and Gridley High School. As we know Gridley High School has a strong foundation - the test scores, CTE Pathways, and Gold Ribbon status are unparalleled in this region. The ability to work with someone of the caliber of Rikki-Lee to build upon that is a real luxury as I enter my first year," Gridley High Principal Justin Kern stated.

Living in Chico with her husband Ryan, the couple has three daughters, ages ten, nine and seven years old.

Burresch is excited to work in an area where the community takes ownership and is so predominant in ag which is what she is used to.

"I'm used to everybody knowing each other. I love all of that!" she said.

Superintendent Jordan Reeves stated, “We are very excited to have someone with Rikki Lee’s experience and skillset coming to Gridley High School. Rikki’s extensive knowledge of CTE/FFA as well as secondary curriculum makes her an ideal fit for our high school. Coming from a small town like Cedarville, she understands the importance of being highly visible for our students, parents and our community. Gridley High School is in a great place as a “California Gold Ribbon School” and academically we have of the highest test scores in the entire North State. Our new administrative team of Rikki and Principal Justin Kern will only strengthen an already strong school.”
